Sometimes we deny ourselves too much when it comes to pursuing the perfect figure and health. However, doctors encourage us not to do so, as not all foods we think of as harmful is actually so.

We did a little research and compiled a list of 7 foods that can be very good for you if you eat them in moderation.

1. Strong Alcohol

Taken in small doses, strong alcoholic beverages, such as cognac, can be not only harmless but also very helpful.

They relieve headaches, improve digestion, and lower cholesterol levels.

Alcohol can also be a good treatment for common colds, and a single injection can relieve stress.

Moderate alcohol consumption may provide some health benefits, such as:

  • Reducing your risk of developing and dying of heart disease
  • Possibly reducing your risk of ischemic stroke (when the arteries to your brain become narrowed or blocked, causing severely reduced blood flow)
  • Possibly reducing your risk of diabetes
  • Not harmful

2. Sugar

Sugar
Sugar

No, it is not a “sweet death”. Scientists have long shown that humans cannot live without sugar, and a lack of it can lead to brain problems such as sclerotic changes.

Also, sugar is a substance that regulates liver activity.

Calorie content

– Sugar has a high calorie content that will give your body energy that you lack. However, all that energy is short lived and it can only give your short bust of increased productivity. Because sugar contains four calories per gram, but it lacks nutritious value (no dietary fibers) and because of that sugar is only an added ingredient in many meals.

Diabetes

 – Scientists have proven that diabetes is a genetic condition that is created from the moment we are born. Eating bad food and lots of sweets and fats can only decrease the efficiency of the pancreas, but in moderate use there are no health risks.

Skin health

 – Sugar’s glycolic acid can be very helpful in maintaining the health and look of your skin. Using it can help elimination blemishes and restoring the balance in the skin’s oils.

Less processed

 – Many people use high-fructose corn syrup as a means of sweetening their food, but that product is highly processed and can cause problems to their digestion. Sugars consist only from natural ingredients that can be processed easily by our metabolism.

Blood and insulin benefits

 – Many foods that have in them glucose are sweet, but our bodies (and especially liver) have larger problem disassembling glucose than fructose that can be found in sugar. Because of this, insulin levels will be greatly increased during the short periods of time, making you feel energetic and powerful. Sadly after that initial rush, drop of insulin will also make you hungry for more sweets. But that is not all. Because of the influence of sugar’s glucose has on the hormone leptin, you will indeed feel more full than after eating foods with fructose.

Minerals and nutrients

 – Sugars in their structure have ingredients that are passed to them from their natural sources, sugarcanes or beet. Elements such as phosphorus, calcium, iron, magnesium and potassium will not be greatly present in the industrially refined sugar.

Environment benefits

 – Sugar is created from natural resources without the use of pesticides and other harmful products, in a way what don pollutes environment. That is not the case with the production of the industrial artificial sweeteners.

3. Beer

Beer

Beer beats everything when it comes to helpful acids. Citric acid prevents kidney stones; vitamin C and folic acid strengthen immunity.

That is why many doctors recommend drinking beer once a week; Remember the rule of moderation.

1. Beer is more nutritious than other alcoholic drinks.

We hear a lot about the abundance of antioxidants in wine, but beer has just as many. The specific antioxidants are different because the flavonoids in barley and hops are different from those in grapes, but antioxidants are a good thing. Beer is also higher than wine in protein and vitamin B. Even better, beer contains iron, calcium, phosphates and even fiber. Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry

2. Beer can help protect your heart.

Studies suggest moderate beer drinking* may make you less likely than those who don’t drink to suffer from hearts attacks, strokes or heart disease. In fact, studies evaluating the relative benefits of wine versus beer versus spirits suggest that moderate consumption of any alcoholic beverage is associated with lower rates of cardiovascular disease. New England Journal of Medicine

3. Beer helps prevent kidney stones.

Drinking beer could help reduce your risk of developing kidney stones.  According to a recent study, men and women who reported drinking a moderate amount* of beer reduced their risk of developing a stone by 41 percent. Beers that contain a lot of hops — for example, pale ales — are rich in kidney health-promoting phytochemicals. Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology

4. Beer lowers bad cholesterol.

The soluble fiber in beer can help reduce your LDL or “bad” cholesterol. Increasing your intake of soluble fiber has numerous health benefits, including the promotion of healthy blood-sugar and blood-cholesterol levels. However, because alcohol interferes with the body’s ability to absorb vitamins and minerals, it can also lessen the body’s ability to burn stored fat. American Heart Association: Circulation

5. Beer strengthens your bones.

Due to its high silicon content, beer may help to build stronger bones. Dietary silicon in the soluble form of orthosilicic acid (OSA) may be important for the growth and development of bone and connective tissue and help reduce the risk of osteoporosis, a bone-thinning disease. National Institutes of Health

6. Beer helps reduce stress.

Researchers found that two glasses of beer a day can reduce work-related stress or anxiety. However, routinely turning to alcohol to help cope with stress may do more harm than good. While alcohol may help with stress reduction in the moment, in the long run it can contribute to feelings of depression and anxiety, making stress harder to deal with. American Journal of Psychiatry

7. Beer may help improve memory.

Hops has a secret ingredient that can help improve cognitive function – Xanthohumol. It’s a flavonoid that helps slow down the degradation process of memory. The chemical could help protect brain cells from oxidative damage associated with dementia. (Important note: The dosage used in the study was much higher than a human could possibly consume via beer. Research is still in early stages.)Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry

8. Beer helps cognitive function.

In middle-aged subjects, increasing levels of alcohol consumption were associated with better function. These findings do not suggest we encourage increased alcohol consumption, but moderate alcohol consumption* has been proven to increase cognitive function. American Journal of Epidemiology

* Moderate drinking = one drink/day for women and two drinks/day for men

4. Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise
Mayonnaise

Many doctors now recommend eating a salad with mayonnaise 2-3 times a week because of the vegetable oils it contains: they help prevent heart disease.

In addition, vitamins E and F neutralize the negative effects of the environment and improve metabolism.

However, this only applies to mayonnaise you make at home; store-bought mayo won’t do you any good.

1. Heart health

Studies have found that the vitamin E content in mayonnaise can prevent strokes.

What’s more, the omega-3 found in mayo is great for keeping your heart healthy and can ward off sudden heart attack.

“Because of the antioxidant profile of this condiment, eating it might just help decrease the risk of succumbing to stroke.

“There’s no denying that mayo is very high in fat. That doesn’t mean you should ban it for life. It can be a part of a healthy diet when eaten in very small amounts.”

2.  Helps absorb nutrients better

Lots of vitamins and minerals like vitamins A, D, E and K are all fat-soluble.

This means that they need fat to be absorbed and make sure you get all the goodness out of them.

Being both high in good fat and vitamin E means that eating mayonnaise in moderation can help you take in all of these important nutrients.

3. Lowers cholesterol

As well as helping with the absorption of all sorts of important minerals and vitamins, the healthy fats in mayonnaise can help lower your cholesterol.

“Mayonnaise contains mostly unsaturated fat, from 70% up to 85% of total. This is the so-called ‘healthy’ fat,” explains Evermore Health CEO Alessandra Sollberger.

“This aids nutrient absorption and helps reduce the risk of high blood cholesterol levels.”

4.  Vitamins and minerals

Hayley explains that mayonnaise is “rich in vitamin K, E and choline and minerals such as potassium, selenium and also sodium.”

Selenium will fight the aging process and help the immune system by reducing free radical damage, while potassium will keep you strong and help your metabolism.
